What is Nasikagra Drishti Mudra?
Nasikagra means the upper part or front of the nose. Another name for this exercise is Agochari Mudra. In Sanskrit, it means beyond sense perception, unknown or invisible. Nasikagra Drishti Mudra helps the seeker to go beyond normal awareness.

Nasikagra Drishti Mudra – Preliminary Exercises
When we initially practice Nasikagra Drishti Mudra. So it is difficult to focus the vision on the front part of the nostril. To overcome this difficulty, initially, keep the index finger erect with one arm outstretched and focus on it. Slowly bring the index finger near the nostril. Keep the sight firmly fixed on the index finger. When the index finger touches the tip of the nostril, the eyes should still be fixed on the finger.
Now focus your eyes on the nostrils and lower the hand. Later this method seems unnecessary and the eyes rest comfortably on the nostrils as desired.
How to do Nasikagra Drishti Mudra?
- First, sit in a comfortable posture of meditation.
- Keep your head and spine straight.
- Place the hand on your knees in Gyan Mudra or Chin Mudra.
- And then close your eyes and relax your whole body.
- Now open your eyes and focus them on the nostrils.
- Do not put any kind of stress on the whole exercise.
- When the eyes are focused correctly, the nostrils will see two deaf lines. These two lines together at the nostrils form a shape similar to an inverted V.
- Practice concentration on the top tip of the inverted V.
- Try to completely immerse your mind in the practice by removing it from all other thoughts.
- After a few moments, close the eyes and relax them before repeating the exercise.
Breathing while doing Nasikagra Drishti Mudra –
Nasikagra Drishti should be practiced while breathing normally until the practice of looking down at the eyes is done. Later the exercise can be done with Antarkumbhaka. But not with Bahirkumbhaka. When connecting the practice with Antarkumbhaka, then keep your eyes closed while inhaling and exhaling.
Awareness – Nasikagra Drishti in Mudradra
In the practice of this Mudra, the eyes remain open. Yet its purpose is to create a state of introspection. Open eyes should not be aware of the outside world. Focusing on the front part of the nostril brings concentration to the mind.
Nasikagra Drishti Mudra Practice Time-
This Mudra can be practiced in the morning or at night before sleeping. And also it can be practiced at any time of the day.
Limitations of Nasikagra Drishti Mudra –
It is very necessary to keep in mind the following facts –
1- Glaucoma patients should not practice this mudra.
This Mudra should not be performed by those with diabetic retinopathy or who have just undergone cataract surgery, lens implant, or other eye operation.
3- Always do this Mudra only under the guidance of a competent teacher.
4- Persons suffering from depression should not practice Nasikagra, as it brings introversion.
