The difference between a successful enterprise and an unsuccessful one will inevitably boil down to time and experience. Ghanshyam Sarda, founder of the Sarda Group of Industries, a behemoth of Indian industry, tells young entrepreneurs that “no major company started off as a success, but only as an idea that needed time and patience to build upon.”
Take it from the man who almost single handedly resurrected India’s failing jute industry with single minded commitment to a greater cause. Who maintains “while many will tell you failure is more likely than success, just remember what you began, and why.”
In the 70s, major conglomerates were distancing themselves from the jute industry owing to unavoidable and pressing labour concerns. So, Ghanshyam Sarda saw beyond and envisioned a better and more hopeful future for Jute and the people who were in its employ.
Facing huge losses and grappling with widespread unemployment, this eco-friendly and biodegradable material’s fate was all but decided. Until Mr. Sarda decided to step in. He began by reviving nine jute mills, gradually and patiently resuscitating the jute industry. All the while uplifting numerous workers in Bengal through gainful employment.
Seeing the potential of your dreams is one thing, whereas seeing them through till they are realised: is altogether another. “You need to take your beliefs and transfer them to the people who work with you, you have to make people believe before everything else” says the man who made people believe once again: in the enormous and untapped potential of Jute!
Advise To Entrepreneurs By Ghanshyam Sarda
On World Entrepreneurs Day, Ghanshyam Sarda shares the first and foremost step an entrepreneur must take for scaling their business . “Keep your processes simple, complexity takes up valuable time that can be spent focusing on creating and conceiving new idea” says Ghanshyam Sarda.
CEOS of growing companies must be wary of this and continue to simplify their operations. To simplify complicated things, you need to understand them first, and solve them after this comes from keen study and observation.
Ghanshyam Sarda’s key concern for the jute industry was the lack of focused, technical training for jute workers in India. So he addressed this by establishing the first training centre for jute professionals in India. Address the concerns of the stakeholders that matter most: the people who work for you must be worked for in return as well.
Mr. Sarda also believes that it has become important than ever to offer a whole new experience to the workforce to enhance the productivity and retention.
Diversity and Inclusion at the workplace is as important as any other factor for any business organisation to grow and gain popularity in the market. The concept of Diversity focuses on hiring candidates from different culture, religion, beliefs, and values.
This opens up the doors for creativity and generation of new ideas in the workplace for higher productivity. On the other hand, Inclusion is an internal practice that focuses on offering the same level of respect and providing opportunities to all the members in the organisation to promote engagement and satisfaction among the workforce.
Ghanshyam Sarda Suggestion To Make Dream Come True:
Mr. Sarda maintains, “Of course there are many other factors that will play a huge role in the success and growth of companies- timing, the right people, focus, and of course: an intense desire to work hard towards realising the dreams that kept you up at night, the very same that lead you down the entrepreneurial path you find yourself on.”
