Working In A 6 Person Cubicle? Here’s How To Stay Focused!

by Jakeslessor September 12, 2022

If you work in an office environment, you’ve no doubt encountered the 6 person cubicle at some point in your career. While it may seem like a cramped space to work in, it’s not necessarily difficult to stay focused and motivated when working from this type of setup. There are plenty of effective strategies that can make you more productive when working from this type of office layout. Here are some things to keep in mind when working from a 6 person cubicle so that you can stay on task, productive, and efficient throughout the day!

1. Try Setting Your Body Up For Success

Design your office cubicle workstations so that you have the best opportunity for productivity. Take these important factors into consideration: desk height, chair height, and lighting. Put your monitor at eye level, at least 19 inches from your face. Put your keyboard and mouse next to one another. Be sure that you can see the entire screen without any straining of your neck or back muscles. If there are lights above you, be sure they’re diffused so that it is not a harsh glare on the screen. And finally – make sure you have enough space for your keyboard as well as all documents or handouts that need to be accessed during the day! Set up an external monitor for other tasks. Make sure to get up and stretch your legs regularly too!

2. Practice Deep Breathing Exercises While At Work

Don’t let the idea of tight quarters make you panic or lose focus. Consider investing in an office cubicle workstation for privacy and security, but be aware that it will also increase the amount of chatter with your peers. Try some deep breathing exercises when you need a little break. Pick up your head off the desk and close your eyes as you exhale deeply, picturing all the tension being released from your body.

Repeat this process three times and soon enough, you’ll feel much better—and more focused than ever before. You can also consider a quieter workspace if people chatting isn’t your thing, which is likely given how many cubes are available to them at most offices. If they’re talking too loudly on their phone while in the cube next to yours, politely ask them to use their headphones so you can concentrate better on what you’re doing. And remember, don’t forget to take breaks! The pressure of the fast-paced environment can easily cause mental exhaustion. Every 45 minutes or so, get up and take a walk around your building or even just go outside for five minutes. Getting out of the office will give you perspective and reduce stress levels.

3. Exercise And Eat Clean While Working

1. Put your feet up on the desk or a raised surface: If you put your feet up on the desk, it makes your toes point away from the person sitting behind you. If you want to use another raised surface, make sure they are high enough so that you can rest your forearms comfortably on them. 2. Stretch out for five minutes every hour: It’s important to give your body time to relax and stretch during work hours. 3. Stand up and walk around for three minutes every hour: It is also important to give your body time to move and not just sit in one spot all day long 4. Listen to music while working at home or in the office: Listening to upbeat music while working will help you keep a steady pace 5. Smile often!: Smiling releases endorphins which help reduce stress and increase happiness

4. Adjust Your Desk Setup

Your office cubicle workstations are important because it is the space where you spend most of your time working on. Regardless of the size of your office cubicle, it’s important that you take some time when at home or out shopping and find your personalized desk setup. The key to finding this desk setup is all about understanding what works best for you.

One great way to do this is by getting ideas from other people or looking up desk setups on Google. Even if you don’t think it would work for you, try it out and see how it feels. There might be one simple change to make that will increase your productivity tenfold! Another thing to keep in mind is how tall your cubicle walls are. If they’re too high then sitting down with a laptop can be difficult and uncomfortable so consider adding risers under the legs of your chair so you can lean back slightly and use the laptop more comfortably.

5. Create Different Routines Based On Clients Or Projects

It may be tempting to sit next to your best friend or move desks every few weeks but resist that temptation. It is best for you, your team, and the company if you pick an office space and desk and stay there. The main reason is concentration. Chances are you’ll get more done when you don’t have distractions coming from one side or the other. Your productivity will increase because all of your energy isn’t wasted on trying not to get distracted by other people talking, walking around, or coughing near you (you know it’s contagious). To keep up with staying focused as well as make sure your teammates don’t steal any ideas while they’re looking over your shoulder, there are a few different techniques you can use.

6. Have Small, Realistic Goals (Ex. Wake Up At 7 Am, Go For A Quick Walk, Meditate For 5 Minutes, Get Coffee And Breakfast Before Starting Work)

It can be so easy to lose focus at work with three people talking all around you. Sometimes, I don’t even know what time it is by the time I get home from work because I am so exhausted from focusing on something for five seconds at a time all day. The first thing that helps me stay focused is setting small, realistic goals for myself throughout the day.

Wake up at 7 am and start your morning with some exercise if you’re able (try one of these ____ exercises) (seven sentences). After that, set realistic goals like meditating for 5 minutes, grabbing coffee before starting work, or doing another workout during your lunch break- whatever helps you stay focused! To avoid feeling overwhelmed, take things one step at a time. If you feel as though you need more help with staying focused while working, try using an app like SelfControl or Focus Keeper which will block distracting websites or apps for a set amount of time. You could also download anti-distraction software that blocks access to social media sites on your computer while working.
